It is inaccurate to state as too many have that the border is overrun with violence and out of control Napolitano said in prepared remarks. This statement -- often made only to score political points -- is just plain wrong. Not only does it ignore all of the statistical evidence it also belittles the significant progress that effective law enforcement has made to protect this border and the people who live alongside it.Then Napolitano issued her Dirty Harry comments by saying:
Today I say to the cartels: Dont even think about bringing your violence and tactics across this border. You will be met by an overwhelming response. And were going to continue to work with our partners in Mexico to dismantle and defeat you. And that message extends to anyone considering coming across that border illegally whether a smuggler a human trafficker or an unlawful immigrant seeking work. The full text of her speech can be found at the DHS web site.
Whats amazing is that whether its health care stimulus or the border the Obama administration just doesnt have a grasp on whats going on in this country.
Does anyone believe Napolitanos get tough message?
Do you think the drug cartels are scared? I know there are a number of Americans who are! Americans should be safe in America ... ANYWHERE in America.
The violence is not just isolated to the border towns. A number of cruise lines have altered their routes and taken Mazatlan off their ports of call due to an increase in muggings.
According to the report in the Minneapolis Examiner Acapulco has also seen kidnappings and murders of tourists in recent months severally impacting its tourist trade.
Napolitano can say what she wants and the Obama administration can ignore whats going on but that doesnt change the situation along our southern border.
You cant act like Dirty Harry unless you can back it up. You cant say Go ahead make my day and then go to a staff meeting or shoot some hoops.
The drug cartels and illegal immigrant traffickers will only back off when the U.S. gets tough.
