And Obamacare 5 Years Later
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. In the United States today each citizen owes nearly $57000 to pay down our massive $18 trillion national debt. If we do not get serious about tackling this spending-driven debt crisis we will harm opportunity for generations to come. Unfortunately President Obamas recently unveiled budget continues to spend more and tax more.
It doesnt even balance.
I believe we can and we must do better. This week the House is expected to vote on a budget resolution to get Washingtons spending under control balance the budget and jumpstart our economy.
The House will consider a budget proposal from the
Budget Committee as well as a proposal from the conservative
Republican Study Committee of which I am a Member.
Along with the budget discussions the House is also expected to vote on a proposal to permanently replace Medicares flawed reimbursement formula to prevent Medicare doctors from receiving a 20 pay cut. Crafting a budget is a very serious process and I am taking a close look at the different proposals.

Obamacare 5 Years Later
Five years ago today Obamacare was signed into law. While President Obama promised more affordable health care we have seen costs and premiums skyrocket and fewer health care options available for families.
Obamacare has also greatly harmed opportunity with new inefficient regulations and burdensome compliance costs on individuals and our nations small businesses.
A study from the American Action Forum found that the implementation of Obamacare has cost $43 billion and more than 163 million paperwork burden hours. I believe we must fully repeal Obamacare and replace it with patient-centered solutions that actually make health care more affordable without harming our economy.
I will continue to fight for full repeal.
Farm Bill Implementation
On Thursday the House Agriculture Committee will hold a hearing to receive an update on the implementation of the Farm Bill from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). As Vice Chairman of the Committee my top priority is to make sure the Farm Bill works for our TX19 farmers and ranchers.
Deadlines for producers are on March 31st and I appreciate USDA coming to update the Committee and answer our questions.
I look forward to addressing the needs of TX19 with the USDA and I will be sure to update you on any new information I receive.
Blocking President Obamas Attorney General Nomination
Last month I joined several of my colleagues in a
letter to the Senate opposing the nomination of Loretta Lynch for Attorney General.
In the letter we write
As Attorney General Ms. Lynch would be called upon to swear an oath to the Constitution not to the President. Unfortunately her largely non-responsive answers to numerous questions about the scope of the Presidents power to suspend enforcement of the laws give us every reason to doubt that she will be able to fulfill her oath to the Constitution."
While Ms. Lynch defends the Presidents executive amnesty I believe we must defend the Constitution. Blocking her nomination is an appropriate use of Congress check and balance authority to stop the Presidents abuse of power.
