xas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Greenville TX - The Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum has some exciting news to share! We have just received the entire collection of Audie Murphy artifacts that were on display at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital. The hospital no longer had the room to display them and the Murphy family decided the collection should come to the Museum. Born in Hunt County where Greenville is the county seat Audie Murphy was the most decorated soldier of WWII and went on to become an actor and songwriter.
This collection of over 60 artifacts includes many wonderful pieces. Some of them consist of his uniform several of his movie scripts the auto-lite sign he used to practice target shooting when he was young and four of his guns including the German Mauser he picked up during WWII. Added to what the museum already has this collection now makes the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum the largest repository of Audie Murphy artifacts in a museum. Once the objects are all processed we will begin working on incorporating many of the pieces into our existing exhibits on Audie Murphy many of which will need to be revamped. The renovated exhibits will be unveiled beginning Audie Murphy Days which will be April 20-21st. For additional information contact the Museum at (903) 450-4502.
