Not Your Dads Democrat Party: The Saga of Rep. Aaron Pena

Mold being broken across South Texas as being conservative becomes OK width=126By Sibyl West
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas State Rep. Aaron Pea is one of those old time conservative Democrats that just dont exist any more. The devastating TEA-nami of November 2nd is reverberating through Texas & the Hispanic community and he has gotten at least 50 calls from both Democrats & Republicans regarding his future. If he crosses over and and joins the GOP hell be welcomed and I would bet others will follow. Hispanics share many values with conservatives most notably:
  1. Many own small businesses
  2. They are pro-life
  3. They are pro-2nd Amendment.
They vote Democrat because theyve been conned. Reminds me of the old Bengali saying Too much affection (from a stranger) is the symptom of a thief." Here are two important articles with  excerpts.

Pea responds to party-switch speculation width=413

By Steve Taylor December 13 2010 Rio Grande Guardian
... He warned that after the partys crushing defeat at the Nov. 2 general election including the loss of 22 state House seats Texas Democrats face decades in the political wilderness. ...
Many of the Democrats are still thinking the party can be reformed and that perhaps in a decade we can be competitive again. Many of the calls from Republicans including lawmakers were that our community can still have a seat at the table now. Why wait a decade /when you can have opportunities now? And so after the large number of calls today and the growing speculation I can say I am taking the matter under consideration and I will issue a public statement in the coming days one way or the other. I am who I am and my intention is to represent my community and to give them the best possible advantage under the current environment."
Read Rep. Penas entire statement here. Now check out how the party of minorities and the little guy reacts when one of their drones begins to act like an individual.

Democrats: If he flips Pea should resign House seat width=413

By Steve Taylor December 11 2010 Rio Grande Guardian McALLEN Democratic reaction to the possibility that state Rep. Aaron Pea may switch parties and become a Republican has been swift and hostile. State Sen. Juan Chuy" Hinojosa said if Pea does ditch the Democrats he should do the honorable thing and resign. Former Hidalgo County Democratic Party width=70Chair Juan Maldonado a mentor to Pea in his formative years in politics agreed. I am disappointed that Rep. Aaron Pea is considering switching to the Republican Party" said Hinojosa D-McAllen. He was elected as a Democrat. If he switches party he needs to resign his office and run in a special election as a Republican. That is the right thing to do. Otherwise he betrays his constituents who elected him as a Democrat." More… The war continues. Stay tuned.
