Obama Parries Solyndra Attacks in First Campaign Ad

By Andrew Restuccia width=158President Obama came out swinging in his first campaign advertisement pushing back against criticism of the Solyndra loan guarantee and touting his energy record amid growing Republican attacks. The advertisement shows Obama has no plans to shy away from energy policy on the campaign trail. It comes as the GOP White House hopefuls are bashing the president over the $535 million loan guarantee to failed solar panel firm Solyndra and the administrations decision to reject the Keystone pipeline. The ad released Wednesday night takes aim at conservative group Americans for Prosperity which is partially funded by the billionaire Koch brothers. The group is spending $6 million in battleground states on new ads criticizing Obama over the Solyndra loan guarantee. The Americans for Prosperity ads imply that Obama helped to secure the loan guarantees to help campaign contributors. Secretive oil billionaires are attacking President Obama with ads fact-checkers say are not tethered to the facts while independent watchdogs call this presidents record on ethics unprecedented" the Obama campaigns ad says in response. An ongoing investigation of the Solyndra loan guarantee by House Republicans has found no evidence that the administration approved the Solyndra loan guarantee to please campaign donors. The campaign released the ad on the same day that Obama rejected the Keystone XL oil pipeline infuriating Republicans who say the project will boost the economy and create thousands of jobs. While the ad doesnt mention Keystone it lays the groundwork for the presidents response to the pipeline criticism by arguing that investments in renewable energy can create millions of jobs. The ad also highlights the administrations efforts to wean the country off its dependence on oil. President Obama kept his promise to toughen ethics rules and strengthen Americas energy economy" the ad says.
