Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) last night acted to help veterans by allowing all veterans to receive official identification cards through the VA. This card will eliminate the need for veterans to carry their DD-214 military discharge papers to use for benefits and treatment. Olson voted in support of H.R. 91 the Veterans I.D. Card Act. The bill passed the House by a vote of 411 0. It now heads to the president for his signature.
Veterans are heroes who honorably serve to protect our nation they deserve every effort to make obtaining benefits or treatment as easy as possible" Rep. Olson said. The need for veterans to carry their DD-214 military discharge papers when seeking help with benefits or care is antiquated and burdensome and increases the risk for identity theft because of the personal information on the papers. Im proud the House passed legislation to support and protect the men and women who so honorably served our country."H.R. 91 requires the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to issue an identification card to certain veterans who: request the card received an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces; present a copy of the DD-214 form or other official document demonstrating such service; and who pay a fee needed to cover the cost of the card. This identification card also gives employers looking to hire veterans an easy way to verify an employees military service as well as give veterans the ability to take advantage of service-related discounts.
