Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today voted to delay Obamacare’s mandates on employers, families and individuals and protect all Americans from the devastating consequences it will have on jobs, on healthcare, and on our economy. These mandates are already forcing employers to stop hiring new workers and will require all individuals to prove they have purchased government-dictated healthcare coverage or else pay a penalty.
“The President, citing the complexity of the mandate, has sought to go around the law and delay the employer mandate unilaterally,” Olson said. “Well, I agree that Obamacare is too complex, but he needs to come to Congress if he wants to change a law, and today we gave him that ability. President Obama has had three years to figure this out and failed. The fact remains that Obamacare is a government takeover of our healthcare system, will not help the American people and needs to be repealed.”
“While billion dollar corporations with White House access get excused from Obamacare, the President ignores the average American facing a looming rate shock. That’s unfair and wrong and that’s why I voted today to protect all individuals, small businesses and families from the crushing impacts of this bad law. They deserve at a minimum, the same reprieve from Obamacare’s costly mandates,” Olson concluded.
The bills, H.R. 2667, the Authority for a Mandate Delay Act and H.R. 2668, the Fairness for American Families Act, delay reporting requirements for employers and insurers for one year as well as financial penalties against employers that fail to meet the law’s mandate to offer insurance. H.R. 2667 passed by a vote of 264-161. H.R. 2668 passed by a vote of 251-174.
