Pete Olson (TX) today applauded House passage of legislation to support Texas efforts to stop President Obamas Executive Order that bypassed federal immigration laws. For the first time ever the House passed H. Res. 639 which authorizes the Speaker to appear as amicus curiae on behalf of the House of Representatives in the matter of United States et al. v. Texas et al.
Today the House took an unprecedented step and voted to file an amicus brief in the Supreme Court opposing the presidents executive amnesty said Rep. Pete Olson. The presidents executive overreach is a direct attack on the legislative branchs constitutional powers. I applaud this effort and pray the Supreme Court renders a decision that halts this executive overreach and supports our law writing authority. The president is not permitted to write laws - only Congress is."
Over a year ago President Obama attempted to circumvent Congress and the will of the people by acting to unilaterally grant legal status to millions of undocumented immigrants. The State of Texas has borne the brunt of his executive amnesty with thousands of undocumented children flooding across our southern border. This resolution authorizes the Speaker of the House on behalf of the House of Representatives; to file a brief in the Supreme Court supporting the position that president has acted in a manner that is not consistent with the duties under the Constitution and the laws of the United States.
