On a Day of Mourning: 2 Meaningful Steps

joe-barton1Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON DC -- Rep. Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) released the following statement in response to the terror attacks in Brussels. I offer my prayers to the victims of todays terror attacks in Brussels and my renewed commitment to halt and destroy ISIS. These attacks yet again highlight the need for action at the highest levels.
Today I became an original cosponsor on legislation to hinder energy revenue for ISIS. H.R. 4826 the Energy and American Security Act allows for further coordination between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Defense (DOD) to halt ISIS oil production and revenue. These Islamic terrorists use oil revenue to help grow their regime. The federal government must use all available resources to make sure they are not successful to that end. As a second step today the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a hearing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). I questioned the FCC Chairman on where Congress must act to counter radical terrorists communication methods. Congress is in the midst of evaluating what defines a lawful intercept" as it pertains to national security. We will continue this conversation to strike a balance between openness and the protection of the public good."
