Congresswoman Kay Granger
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. -- This week Congress is sending a bill to the presidents desk for the first time that guts Obamacare and defunds Planned Parenthood. This keeps our promise to the American people to act on these issues within the first week of the New Year.
The Houses legislative priorities have been blocked by Democrats in the Senate where 60 votes are required to get anything done. However a budget tool called reconciliation" can be used to avoid a filibuster from Senate Democrats and get a bill to the presidents desk with only 51 votes. This procedure can be used once a year and must reduce the deficit.
I hear from many constituents about the burdens their families and small businesses face because of Obamacare and share the outrage and disgust many have expressed regarding the horrific videos of Planned Parenthoods operations.
The bill repeals the mandates and taxes at the heart of the flawed health care law defunds Planned Parenthood and shifts resources to community health centers that provide holistic compassionate care. In addition the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office determined that this bill will reduce the deficit by $516 billion.
President Obama now has to sign or veto this bill. Whatever he chooses Republicans in Congress will continue to propose commonsense solutions that offer the American people a chance for a better life.
