width=65width=150AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry’s first published book On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts are Work Fighting For debuted at #1 on the bestseller list for hardcover nonfiction by the Washington Post*. Perry’s book bested works by such notables as Madeleine Albright Stephen Colbert Ann Coulter and Newt Gingrich.

In “On My Honor” Gov. Perry takes aim at the secular humanist movement and its efforts to foist an agenda of moral relativism on one of America’s most-revered groups. Examining a thirty-year history of the left’s legal assaults on the Boy Scouts of America Perry offers insight into one front of this war which pits proponents of traditional American values against the radical left.

“For close to a century Scouting has planted the values of our founding fathers in the next generation of Boy Scouts and the next generation of many U.S. leaders” wrote Gov. Perry. “I wrote the book for two main reasons: to espouse the virtues of a movement that has positively shaped the lives of millions of young men and to expose the virus of secularism that endangers institutions that teach traditional values.”

As an Eagle Scout and the proud father of an Eagle Scout the governor has fashioned his life around values he learned as a Boy Scout. Serving four and a half years in the United States Air Force and more than two decades in elected office as a state representative commissioner of agriculture lieutenant governor and governor Perry still holds the Scout Law as the standard for his leadership. Scouts across America still strive to be Trustworthy. Loyal. Helpful. Friendly. Courteous. Kind. Obedient. Cheerful. Thrifty. Brave. Clean. Reverent.

Gov. Perry will hold book signings of “On My Honor” in three Texas cities this week. All proceeds from “On My Honor” sales go to the Boy Scouts of America legal defense. The book signings are open to the public.
