Ortiz Guides $795110 to Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport

For assessment of wildlife terminal plan beacon installation and taxiway terminal building rehabilitation width=71Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. U.S. Representative Solomon P. Ortiz (D-Texas) today announced a $795110 grant for the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport. The funding is made available by the Federal Aviation Administration through the Department of Transportation. The funding will help airport officials conduct a wildlife hazard assessment study terminal plan study beacon installation and rehabilitation to taxiway and terminal buildings. The Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport is an economic engine and booster for our city and region" Ortiz said. We must work to see it grow and proposer as we attract more development and businesses to the area. These required studies will ensure the long-term viability of the airport and its resources." The required studies and projects include:
  • Wildlife Hazard Assessment to identify the wildlife species observed and assess their numbers locations local movements and daily/seasonal activities
  • Terminal Plan Study to identify the optimal method to expand and redevelop the existing passenger terminal in order to provide better service to passengers and improve access for aircraft
  • Installation of a new rotating beacon to continue to meet Part 139 requirements
  • Rehabilitation of Taxiway B to extend the useful life of the existing pavement
  • Rehabilitation of the passenger terminal building is required to improve security meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and to minimize weather damage from future hurricanes
