Stand for life and Texas Women
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – (McKINNEY, TX) – Today a coalition of liberal groups, including Planned Parenthood, Center for Reproductive Rights, and the ACLU, announced a lawsuit to challenge HB 2, the landmark pro-life legislation signed by Governor Perry this summer. Senator Ken Paxton, conservative Republican candidate for Attorney General, strongly opposes this lawsuit.
Paxton said, “It is an outrage that democratically-elected officials in the state of Texas who voted on behalf of their constituents are being challenged by liberal organizations seeking to thwart the will of the people. This is one more example of state sovereignty being encroached upon by unelected special interest groups with liberal agendas that are out of step with Texans. I’m proud of my leadership on this issue in the Texas State Senate and my vote to defend life and protect women’s health. The provisions of this law are reasonable, no matter what pro-abortion advocates would have you believe.”
Senator Paxton pointed out that the law does not force the closure of any facility but rather requires each clinic that wishes to perform abortions raise their standards to match those of ambulatory surgical centers.
“Texas women deserve the highest standards of care. If these clinics refuse to adhere to those standards, they simply should not be allowed to perform abortions,” said Paxton.
Throughout his career and life, Ken Paxton has been an unapologetic defender of life and he will continue to do so as Texas’ next Attorney General. Ken has been named a “Pro-Life All Star” by Texas Right to Life and has been endorsed by leading pro-life activists such as Cathie Adams, President, Texas Eagle Forum* and Former Chairman, Republican Party of Texas; Ann Hettinger, Former State Director of Concerned Women for America of Texas*; Carol Everett, Texas Pro-Life Leader and Founder and CEO of The Heidi Group*; and Michelle Smith, State Director of Concerned Women for America of Texas*.
