Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Speaker Straus you know this is kind of a surprise ... I just came to tell you I was becoming a baptist said State Representative Aaron Pena of Edinburg to begin his comments before a packed room of statewide press gathered at the Republican Party of Texas headquarters.
I have come to what I know to be true ... and that is what I learned as a child from my parents & grandparents are reflected in the values & the principles of the Republican Party.
I know in deep south Texas having talked to many in my community that the same conservative values ring true in most every Hispanic household that I know ... our experiences may be different somewhere else but in south Texas I know those experiences to be true said Pena during a jovial & standing room only announcement.
As I have watched politics Ive noted that the Democratic Party has moved away from those core conservative values. It is evident in the Corpus Christi area and in many other areas across South Texas.
When I first came to Austin I thought all Republicans had horns ... but Ive checked and they dont. Theyre no different than the people I know in South Texas.
But if Im not in the room and other people like me arent in the room how do we come to a measure of agreement & understanding?
Somebody once told me If you dont have a seat at the table you may be on the menu. Im not on the menu Im at the table Pena said.
