Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the conviction of Nidal Hasan:
“Nidal Hasan’s cowardly attack on our military was a deliberate act of terror against our country. This guilty verdict affirms we are a nation of laws, honors the victims of this heinous act, and proves that, even in the face of unspeakable tragedy, we will never waver from the core principles for which they gave their lives: freedom, liberty and democracy.”
Sen. Cruz Statement on Hasan Guilty Verdict
From Washington DC, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) released the following statement regarding today’s guilty verdict in the Fort Hood shooting trial of Nidal Hasan:
I hope and pray this verdict will bring some peace to Nidal Hasan’s victims and their families. But if we ever hope to defeat the ongoing threat from radical Islamism, we need to start by calling this terrorist attack on our armed forces by its name. Hiding behind “workplace violence” and excluding evidence on Hasan’s pursuit of jihad will not make terrorism go away or properly honor the American heroes who were slain at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009.
Flores Statements on Fort Hood Shooting Verdict
Congressman Bill Flores (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the military jury convicting Army Major Nidal Hasan guilty on all counts of murder and attempted murder in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting:
“I hope that the victims and victims’ families can rest a little easier now that Nidal Hasan has been rightly convicted for his heinous acts, which can be considered as the deadliest terrorist attack on U.S. soil since September 11th.
“We must now continue our work to ensure that those killed and wounded at Fort Hood receive the same benefits and honors as their counterparts who are wounded or killed in an overseas combat zone or in a declared terrorist attack. These Americans have made tremendous sacrifices for our country and it is time we honor those sacrifices justly. I will continue to stand with Congressman Carter as he leads the efforts to grant the victims and victims’ families the equal treatment and benefits they deserve.”
