Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON DC U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX-32) issued the following statement to congratulate the 2016 winners of the Congressional Art Competition.
Each spring Members of Congress encourage students in their respective districts to participate in the Congressional High School Art Competition also known as the Artistic Discovery competition.
Congressman Sessions proudly hosts this annual competition in the 32
nd Congressional District of Texas. This competition empowers local students to showcase their artwork and gives them the opportunity to receive national recognition for their creativity and immense talent.
Catherine Lines a senior at Garland High School was awarded the Grand Prize for her acrylic painting entitled The Union and the Constitution for All." Her artwork will be showcased in the corridor leading to the U.S. Capitol building for the next year. As the Grand Prize recipient Catherine will travel to Washington DC for the national Congressional High School Art Competition award ceremony in June.

This years competition was once again sponsored by The Art Institute of Dallas. Prior to the awards ceremony the Grand Prize winner and Runners Up honors were chosen by art instructors from The Art Institute and local artists. The Peoples Choice Award winner was chosen through online voting on Congressman Sessions website.
Runners Up honors were presented to Jujuan Breaux a senior at Lakeview Centennial High School for his color pencil work entitled Lady Liberty" and to Zairia Buchanan a junior at Berkner High School for her mixed media work entitled Home of the Brave." The Peoples Choice Award was presented to Anna Nguyen a junior at Wylie High School for her color pencil work entitled Candy." The two Runners Up and the Peoples Choice Award artworks will be displayed in Sessions Dallas District Office for the next year.
The creativity and talent displayed by Catherine Jujuan Zairia and Anna is a testament to the outstanding students here in North Texas. Each of their pieces showcased their immense talent and I am very proud of their work" said Sessions. All of the pieces submitted from students in this years competition were a testament to their patriotism passion and dedication. I wish them the very best as they continue their education and continue to cultivate their artistic abilities."
