Today’s Logic Letter, By Lynn Woolley
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – Dear Lojiks: Politicians often seem to think they are better than the rest of us. Remember, we have massive inequality, according to President Obama. Here’s HOW unequal we are: the Presidential dogs eat out of fine china and crystal — according to the Daily Caller. (I’m hoping this turns out to be a joke.)
But, you know, as a greyhound owner and an observer of chihuahuas, I can tell you that dogs are not all equal. I’m sure the President can fix that.
Back to political corruption. The man who was mayor of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, Ray Nagin (who called NO “a chocolate city,”) has been convicted of taking bribes. In Temple, the JUDY MORALES SCANDAL is closer to its denouement. Bell County Judge Jon Burrows is quoted in Deborah McKeon’s TEMPLE DAILY TELEGRAM story this morning as saying he sees no reason to think that Morales was breaking the law.
Is this greasing the wheel for not filing charges? I have no idea.
If Burrows see no lawbreaking, he is is ignoring the City Charter Rule under which she is serving illegally:
- Her use of county facilities, personnel and materials for a political campaign; and following a heads-up that came from Burrows,
- Her attempt to expunge the email record, as well as removal of other evidence.
She is innocent until proven guilty. But the people of her city and country deserve a full accounting.
It cannot be swept under the rug.
This could be a teachable moment. It could show our local officials that illegal is still illegal, even if you are a member of the political inner circle.
Judy Morales may have simply made errors of judgement — but the recorded telephone conversation is damning. Remember, the County went after C.J. Grisham with a vengeance and that made national news.
TED CRUZ tried again to get some spending cuts in return for the unfettered raising of the debt ceiling. All that got him was a nasty editorial slamming him in the Wall Street Journal.
I find myself more and more separated from the editorial stances of the WSJ — but particularly this time. Cruz is trying to fight the Democrats. Cornyn, whose radio spot talks about how he fights the Democrats, voted with them.
Take a stand!
Logically,
