Propositions 1 and 4 Affecting Veterans or Surviving Spouses Pass State Wide Elections

veteranTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – The November 5, 2013 Statewide Constitution Elections are done, and the two propositions directly affecting veterans or their surviving spouses were overwhelmingly approved by Texas voters.  Once again Texas and its veterans exercising their right to vote, proved positively the impact for those amongst Texans most in need of assistance.

Constitutional Amendment No. 1: Property-tax exemption for surviving spouses of certain service members
The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to provide for an exemption from ad valorem taxation of all or part of the market value of the residence homestead of the surviving spouse of a member of the armed services of the United States who is killed in action.

Constitutional Amendment No. 4: Tax exemption for disabled veterans whose homesteads were donated by charity
The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to provide for an exemption from ad valorem taxation of part of the market value of the residence homestead of a partially disabled veteran or the surviving spouse of a partially disabled veteran if the residence homestead was donated to the disabled veteran by a charitable organization.
