“The American people can’t afford to wait any longer on this Congress to make the critical decisions needed to keep their taxes low. The reason Washington is broken is because Washington refuses to do what is needed to help the American people.
“You can bet that Republicans have been and will continue to fight to keep the American people’s taxes low. Middle-class families are feeling the squeeze of lower home values increased mortgage rates higher energy costs and rising tuition rates. If Congress doesn’t get to work on these key issues many families will lose their vacation because they no longer get a child tax credit.
Newly-wed couples will no longer be able to save for their first home because they have to pay a marriage penalty tax and grandchildren who have inherited the ranch that has been in the family for over 100 years will have to put their family history up for sale because the estate tax is more than the land. Americans are desperate for Congress to get to work on their behalf. That is why they sent us here in the first place.”
NOTE: News reports today suggest that Washington Democrats will put off critical issues that affect American taxpayers.
USA Today reports that House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt (D-SC) said making tax relief permanent “will be something that the next Congress will have to deal with.”
CQ reports that “Democrats were considering ways to avoid a major spending fight altogether … they can wait him out until a new president is elected.”
