Protecting the Border & Dealing with Illegal Immigration Hong Kong Style

width=145By Sibyl West Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas The population makeup of the U.S. is changing gradually & inexorably. For how long have American citizens been calling for border control? And yet through one administration after another the illegals keep pouring in the fence does not get completed and many of the anchor babies and their mothers fill the emergency rooms the schools many men fill the prisons & drain the treasury.   President Bush not only didnt secure the border with Mexico but through his compassionate conservatism" made a move toward amnesty for illegals. Law abiding taxpaying American citizens pushed hard and defeated that misguided effort. Under pressure Congress then voted for the fence kicking and screaming but they didnt approve the funding. Its the old two-step dance they always do to quieten the masses. Then some senators including two from Texas turned it into a virtual" fence then Janet Incompetano nixed it completely. What is so hard about this? Take a look at these fences on the border of Hong Kong (which is not actually part of China but is considered a Special Administrative Region aka  The Golden Goose). How much money manpower and time would it take to make width=315a concrete fence with barbed wire on the top? The barbed-wire fence is the border between China and Hong Kong. Its a  wide concrete expanse and with the drop from ground level the wall is more than twice as high as it looks. Remember: lettuce pickers arent the only ones trying to sneak into the US now. A drunken illegal running his car into the back of your SUV is not the worst that can happen as the foiled terrorist plots of last year show. Now there are car bombs south of the border. If you dont want IEDs turning up in your town YOU are going to have to do something. The government has proven that it is not serious about this. Mental Resistance to Limits No limits no regrets" is a cool motto for an adolescent with no worldly experience. But why does it seem like the adults in America who are old enough to know better have lost all sense of self-preservation? For one thing cowardice under the guise of compassion is not merely tolerated it has become fashionable. Isnt tolerating the intolerable the very width=88definition of cowardice? Generating attitudes that lead to desired action (or inaction) is after all the purpose of the media and entertainment complex in this country which is by the way part of the Democrat machine. This miasma has come to the point of effectively disarming peoples intelligence. Now no individual will utter build the damn fence" unless he happens to be a dishonest opportunistic politican hungering for votes. Then there are those who ignore what they call man-made laws in favor of religious law. Yet I have noticed that even some Christians in their preaching and outreach to those who are in need also ignore the U.S. laws and the legal status indeed qualification of any kind of anyone they assist. Not only is the Christian idea of forgiveness a convenient all-purpose excuse for not halting this dangerous invasion but it is also morally confusing. (No offense to anyone of any religious persuasion intended. Even Hare Krishna temples have illegal immigrant devotees in their ashrams.) God may be unlimited but the public treasury is not. And nobody however well-intentioned has the right to give charity from it. That is what happens when illegals rely on social programs instead of themselves. Prosperity Requires Defense Hong Kong made the top of the list again for freest economy in the world. But instead of focusing on Chinas Special Administrative Regions monetary and tax policy Id like to point out that wherever there is prosperity there will be moochers and thieves. These parasites become more active wherever penalties are weak they disappear when penalties are strict and retribution is swift. It has become clear that police and law enforcement are being intimidated in the United States. Not so in Hong Kong. Twidth=150he Hong Kong Police These are not Chi-com officers but a breed apart. Well trained mannerly disciplined and very sophisticated at large crowd control even without firearms the Hong Kong police patrol the streets on foot. Uniformed and in pairs they keep a watchful eye on the activities in precinct neighborhoods. They have the authority to card" anyone for any reason that is they can stop any passerby and ask to see his or her identification. Everyone living and working in Hong Kong has an ID card. When looking for suspects in an area where a crime has occurred they set up random check points for stopping cars to investigate their passengers for the same purpose. I have even seen their helicopters shining light on boats moving around the harbor at night their bullhorns addressing the unknown captains to determine clearance. Dealing with Immigration When people were fleeing Vietnam in boat loads in the late 80′s and early 90s the Hong Kong authorities rounded these illegal immigrants up and detained them in camps in various places including an island. I used to pass by on my ferry ride downtown and see the high fences and the buildings that sheltered these people. No one ever escaped from the enclosures into the city. Stories were published about the conditions within the camps but one condition that stood out to me was how the able bodied young men among the detainees used to move in gangs taking whatever they wanted from the women /children and elderly. Eventually the boat people were repatriated and the problem ceased to be such a burden. LULAC would cry out against these measures. But look at these detainees and their cartons of rations. You can see from their faces that their treatment was humane and they were full of hope for their future. (Double click the kids pic and youll see the smiles.) This is what it takes and it actually worked. The point is that the Hong Kong authorities kept the would be thugs off of the city streets and eventually carted them out. No humanitarian cries for compassion could force them to compromise the public safety. And I felt safe on the streets of Hong Kong. In 17 years I never experienced a single incident of theft or assault. But here in the United States I feel at risk constantly. The level of lawlessness is high and a quick look at SpotCrime.com will tell you what sort of illegal activities go on in your neighborhood. What will it take?
  1. Unless we can change public attitudes toward law breaking nothing will change. Rules were not made to be broken folks they were made to keep you safe and for things to run smoothly.
  2. Unless the public works with and supports law enforcement to the point that the people pressure legislators who are impeding law enforcement behind the scenes for votes nothing will change. We know who they are by the D behind their names.  (Have you noticed how fast they are jumping ship in Texas lately?)
  3. Unless the uncontrolled lawyers are restrained from their usual nonsense of helping others skirt the laws for monetary gain nothing will change. TORT reform sil vous plait.
  4. Unless each of us accepts the limitations of reality acts responsibly and holds others accountable our society will continue to disintegrate.
  5. No more lying prevarication turning a blind eye or delay.
Lets start with Voter ID. And ... we need to start NOW. Sibyl West is the editor in chief of Ramparts360.com who was named 2010 Blogger of the Year by Americans for Prosperity-Texas. She is a perennial student of Vedanta philosophy who lived for 25 years in the Far East.
