Qualified Judges Crossdressers and the Constitution Oh My!

Tony Perkins’ Washington Update

Forces are keeping busy up on Capitol Hill proving the adage that when Congress is on vacation the nation is safer. The U.S. Senate confirmed Judge Leslie Southwick to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

President Bush and Senators Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) Trent Lott (R-Miss.) Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) for their hard work to overcome stalling tactics and confirm this high-qualified nominee to the bench.
There are still many qualified nominees that Senate Democrats are blocking. Since the beginning of this year the Senate has only confirmed five Circuit Court nominees compared to an average of 17 at the same point in other administrations.

Moving to the topic of the unconstitutional the scheduled vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) I mentioned yesterday has now been pushed to at least next week. It appears that those who believe cross-dressers should be given special protections alongside homosexuals are cross (pun intended) that they were excluded.

The White House recognizing the unconstitutionality of ENDA has issued a veto threat on the legislation. If the Democrats in Congress were equally concerned about constitutionality they would confirm more people like Judge Southwick and put an end to bills like ENDA.
