Only Certified Public Accountant in Race Would be First to Manage Texans’ Tax Dollars
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Raul Torres, Republican from Nueces County, released a video on his website officially launching his campaign for the office of Texas Comptroller. Torres, a Certified Public Accountant who served one term in the Texas House of Representatives representing District 33, is the only CPA in the race to replace outgoing Comptroller Susan Combs.
In the video released today Torres tells Texans, “I want to be your next Comptroller because I believe your family’s future is too important to leave in the hands of career politicians who have been in office for decades,” citing his professional experience as a licensed certified public accountant and explaining that no accountant has ever led the Comptroller’s office.
Asking Texans if they think the future looks good, Torres invites those who agree that state government, “must change things for and by the people to make sure Texas has a better tomorrow,” to join his Texas Tomorrow campaign for Texas Comptroller. Torres said state government, “must learn to spend less while still investing in what matters most to our future,” and introduced his just released book “Texas Tomorrow, An Economic Plan for Texas in the 21st Century” which provides his plan for long term strengthening of the Texas economy.
“We will never do more than keep our heads above water if we don’t make some fundamental changes to how we run state government,” said Torres about his call for the use of professional accounting methods in the Comptroller’s office and Priority Based and Zero Based Budgeting in the state’s budget process. “The Comptroller handles every tax dollar collected and spent by the state of Texas and we need a true conservative and professional accountant who will ensure not one penny is wasted or misused,” added Torres.
