Recently a “newbie” State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) member submitted an opinion piece asking for the Republican Speaker of the House to step down which the Austin American Statesman gleefully picked up as a weighty piece of political commentary. As Teddy Roosevelt was fond of saying “Bullfeathers!”
The great part of this is that it further exposed some in the Texas media for the paid political propagandists that they are. How interesting that the Austin American Statesman has no qualms about taking advantage of a young politically naïve as well as a NEW member of the executive committee of the state Party in an effort to accomplish their goal of replacing a conservative Republican as Speaker of the House with a liberal.
No single friend or foe of the Texas Republican Party can look back over the last 20 years and deny it has transformed from a blue blood country club Republicanism that had relegated itself to obscurity to one of the most grassroots oriented CONSERVATIVE state parties in the nation.
Take note that we are looking back over 20 YEARS; not 20 minutes not 20 days or even 20 months.
Some Republicans always seem to have this intellectually self-sufficient reflexive need to run to the public square and shout to the world “I hate my Party too!” as a way to express their “independence”.
Had Mr. McCaig even bothered to express his discontentment within the State Republican Executive Committee perhaps his comments would have some “gravitas”.
As a fellow SREC member I am becoming weary of the “instant gratification” wing of the Party that thinks they are far too important to bother with sweat and blood politics whereby they change hearts and minds through their service as well as their rhetoric. Instead most of them wish to “change the world” with a fly-by and a couple of nuclear bombs and then sit back and drink margaritas while waiting for the next world to save.
Politics & government go to those who show up … not to those tossing peanuts from the Peanut Gallery.
I know some may say I’m advocating lock step mind-numb robot political involvement. However anyone who knows me knows I am a tireless advocate for true conservatism with a definite bend towards independence.
Obviously no organization that involves mankind is perfect nor can it achieve perfection no matter what big spending politicians naïve politicos or liberal media outlets may say. There is a time and a place for family disagreements over philosophy and direction to take place; on the front page of one of the most liberal newspapers in Texas is not one of them.
If Mr. McCaig thinks Speaker Craddick is not conservative enough for him boy-howdy just wait until one of the members of the Texas 20/20 PAC (9 self described “moderates” of the Texas House) take over. He will be suicidal.
Political wars are fraught with victories and defeats but no battle is ever won by members of your own team shooting their fellow soldiers in the back. Mr. McCaig’s actions reveal that a week before this very important election he is not one who hopes to help conservative Republicans regain ground in the legislature but is instead working to turn the Legislature over to those who will always oppose conservatives.
I work hard on the SREC to ensure that strong conservative Republicans are elected as often as possible. I do this because I still believe in those ideals espoused in our platform.
If Mr. McCaig hopes to be a lawyer someday I pity the client he throws under the bus to preserve a higher “win ratio” for himself.
