TABs Texas Center for Federal Policy pushes solutions
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Crushing debt a downgraded credit rating entitlement programs that threaten to use every available dollar in the future. Those are some of the fiscal problems that this country faces with few solutions being offered to solve them.
Thats where the Texas Association of Business Texas Center for Federal Policy comes in.
For too long Washington has given us more rhetoric than reform" said TAB President and CEO Bill Hammond. On behalf of our members TAB is stepping up and into the federal fiscal policy fray in a deep and significant way. Our Texas Center for Federal Policy is about forging a new path for our country."
The TAB Texas Center for Federal Policy will focus on four key areas: the national debt Medicare Medicaid and Social Security.
Washington got its wake up call with the recent credit rating hit" said Hammond. The news of S&Ps downgrade of our countrys credit rating signals its time to wake up step up and address this fiscal crisis once and for all."
The goal of the TAB Texas Center for Federal Policy will be to offer solutions to get the public and lawmakers moving in the direction of fixing problems. These solutions vary but are all based on tried and true formulas: Empower people; allow the free market to flourish; and demonstrate a renewed respect for fiscal responsibility.
One major supporter of the Centers plan is Texas US Senator John Cornyn who sees it as a way to start the conversation about dealing with these huge fiscal issues.
Texas has been a shining example that limited government lower taxes and less regulation of our businesses helps to grow jobs and move our economy forward. Now more than ever Washington is in need of a fresh approach and Im pleased TAB will be helping to share Texas success story" Sen. Cornyn said.
A new focus on finding long term solutions to the problems of entitlement programs and the national debt is very important to small business owners like Don Bayer owner of Austin Glass and Mirror.
I started paying Social Security when I was 16 years old" said Bayer I was promised by our government that if I paid into the system when I got all these steps up this hill theres going to be a reward for me or at least Id be taken care of. In todays world when I get near the top of that staircase I dont see any of that security there."
Its not only about Don but about his family a good portion of which are also his employees. In our business we have to balance our budget we have to plan cash flow live within our means. We want painless solutions to these problems and youre not going to ever get painless solutions to these problems. We have to stop at some point and take care of the budget and take care of the spending."
