Rep. Alonzo Urges Locals to Help Efforts

AUSTIN TX The remnants of Hurricane Alex have left more than 18000 people stranded many of them homeless and without the basic necessities such as water and food along the Texas/Mexico border.
Texas State Representative Roberto R. Alonzo has joined efforts with local Dallasites who have banded together to start collections of canned foods non-perishable boxed goods bottled water monetary donations and other necessities to ship to those hardest hit in some of those communities in Mexico including Nuevo Leon Nuevo Laredo Ciudad Anahuac and others near the Texas/Mexico border.
The donations will be shipped regularly to the many families and children impacted by this terrible catastrophic tragedy.
One of the local efforts currently underway is being coordinated by Marisela Vargas an active PTA leader within the Dallas Public Schools. Mrs. Vargas can be reached at the following telephone and cell numbers and Ice House Cultural Center location where donations can be dropped off:
WHERE: Ice House Cultural Center
1000 W. Page Street
Dallas Texas 75208
PHONE: (214) 337-1184 (Home)
CELL: (214) 587-9350
I urge all residents from the Dallas area particularly in the Oak Cliff communities to come to the aid of our neighbors to the south particularly our children the poor and the elderly who find themselves in time of need during this horrible crisis. I am certain any type of donations whether it be canned foods bottled water and financial contributions will go a long way in helping victims said Rep. Alonzo.
According to recent news stories reservoirs along the US/Mexico border have risen to their highest levels in decades after days of drenching rain waters forcing many Mexican officials to close bridges open dam floodgates dump dam water into already-flooded rivers and evacuate tens upon thousands from their homes. And yet other storms are expected to be on the way.
