DALLAS - Rep. Roberto Alonzo held a hearing on Tuesday April 7 announcing Texas will receive $345 million for home weatherization programs. Up to $65000 will go to each home that is selected and meets program guidelines.
These programs will aid low-income families provide work for contractors and their employees increase the energy efficiency of thousands of homes and make electricity more affordable.
One of the industries to feel this recession hardest has been our construction industry said Rep. Alonzo. This money will immediately put contractors back to work which is what our State and economy desperately need right now. Moreover this home repair assistance program will offer low interest loans or free grants to help homeowners repair their homes stated the Representative … all you have to do is call the state agency and they can assist you in getting in contact with the contractor or government-assistance provider nearest to your home.
Between $240 and $350 million will be allotted to the Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services (DCDHHS) coming from the US Department of Energy through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. The DCDHHS will allocate this money to contractors qualified for the job and select the applicants to whose homes will be weatherized. This information has been obtained from the Federal Economic Stimulus plan that has recently been passed by Congress and signed by President Obama.
I strongly urge all homeowners to contact the Dallas County Dept. of Health & Human Services and see if they qualify for these services added Rep. Alonzo. I also recommend that our local contractors contact the agency and see if their business could qualify for these weatherization funds.
