Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON, D.C.– Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis/Arlington) recently signed on as a co-sponsor of H. Res. 442, the Stop this Overreaching Presidency Resolution or STOP Resolution.
“This is a nation of laws, not executive orders. Many of the President’s recent actions represent a clear overreach. The President may not want to work with Congress, but that doesn’t mean he can simply go around us using his ‘phone and a pen.’ This isn’t what the founders intended and it is time for Congress to stand up and say STOP,” said Rep. Barton.
H. Res. 442 was introduced by Rep. Tom Rice of South Carolina. It now has more than 80 co-sponsors and is based on the following facts:
– Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution entitled, “Presidential Responsibilities”, states that the President “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” However, President Obama has chosen to ignore some of the laws written by Congress.
– The President has repeatedly ignored this Constitutionally-mandated duty, to include:
• Delaying the Obamacare’s employer mandate by one year. • Extending so-called “substandard” insurance policies by one year. • Granting deferred removal action to illegal immigrants.
H.Res. 442 directs the House to institute legal action to require the President to comply with the law. The STOP Resolution does not require a vote in the Senate.
