Continues to fight to lower property taxes
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN TX Representative Charlie Howard (R-Sugar Land) today issued the following statement regarding House Bill 879 and its enabling legislation House Joint Resolution 79.
For over 10 years I have been working in the Texas Legislature to reform the property tax system in Texas to limit appraisal increases. Recently commentary was published in the Houston Chronicle that completely misrepresents and misinterprets the intention behind House Bill 879.
Under current law property taxes can be increased by 10 each year. House Bill 879 minimizes this increase to 5. The claim that my legislation raises a property owners taxes is misguided and false stated Rep. Howard. I will continue my fight on behalf of the Texas taxpayer by reforming our property tax system and decreasing appraisal increases.
