Rep. Cohen Hosts Higher Education Forum February 25

ellen-cohen2HOUSTON -- Reforming the Top 10 Rule was the priority issue of District 134 according to surveys and comments from constituents that flooded the offices of State Representative Ellen Cohen prior to the 81st Legislative Session. The primary force behind that reform will be a special guest of Representative Cohen at a Higher Education Forum scheduled for February 25. State Representative Cohen (D-Houston) will host State Representative Dan Branch (R-Dallas) who is the chair of the Texas House of Representatives Higher Education Committee on which Rep. Cohen also serves.  The forum is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday February 25 at The Rice School 7550 Seuss Drive Houston 77025. The event is open to the public. Chairman Branch not only led the successful efforts to reform the Top 10 college admissions law he also helped set the stage to develop more Tier One universities in Texas limit cell phone use in active school zones and provide more interactive technology in public school classrooms. I am pleased that Chairman Branch accepted my invitation to address the people of District 134 regarding higher education issues. With 67 of the District holding an associate or bachelors degree or higher -- compared with 23 statewide -- what happens on the Higher Education Committee is obviously important to the constituents I represent  said Rep. Cohen. During the forum Chairman Branch will offer an overview of the 81st Legislative Session as well as the activities assigned to the Higher Education Committee in the coming months. State Representative Ellen Cohen represents District 134 which includes all of Bellaire West University River Oaks Rice University and the Texas Medical Center along with parts of Meyerland and Montrose.  Rep. Cohen is serving her second term in the Texas State Legislature.
