Rep. Creighton Sen. Patrick Team Up to Tell Washington D.C. Dont Mess with Texas

width=142Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas   As we attempt to balance one of the most difficult budgets in Texas history it has never been more evident that unstable economic policies in Washington D.C create unnecessary downward pressures on states like Texas said State Representative Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) today while announcing that Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston) will be the Senate Sponsor for his HCR 50 also known as the 10th Amendment Resolution. Senator Patrick filed Senate Concurrent Resolution 14 claiming Texas sovereignty under the 10th Amendment. SCR 14 the senate companion to HCR 50 will help ensure passage of this vital Resolution that reminds Washington D.C. that powers not delegated to the nation by the Constitution are reserved to the states or to the people. I appreciate the leadership of Representative Creighton on this issue stated Senator Patrick.
I am honored to carry Senate Concurrent Resolution 14 (SCR 14). It is overwhelmingly supported by Texans from every corner of our state. That is why my 18 Republican colleagues have co-authored this resolution. We are sending an important message to the federal government to stop messin with Texas."
width=150During the 81st Legislative Session in 2009 HCR 50 passed the House with near-unanimous support. Unfortunately time constraints in the Senate prohibited it from passing in both chambers. This Session with the Resolution moving through both chambers of the legislature concurrently passage to the Governors desk for signing becomes a likely reality. I am honored to have Senator Patrick carry this important piece of legislation through the Senate stated Creighton.
The Senators conservative philosophy coupled with this strong belief in limiting the powers of government are core values that I share. Together HCR 50 and SCR 14 represent the growing sentiment that the federal government has continued to overreach its power and spending and sends a message that our nation is a union of individual and sovereign states stated Creighton.
Creighton was recently appointed to serve as chairman of the Select Committee on State Sovereignty. The committee will consider issues raised relating to the interrelation of the powers and duties of the federal and the states government and in recognition of the powers reserved to the states and the people under the 10th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. Senator Patrick and Representative Creightons SCR 14/HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government. It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties or that requires states to pass width=207legislation or lose federal funding be prohibited or repealed. The collateral damage that unfunded mandates create is tragic and must be addressed said Creighton. Senator Patrick and I along with our colleagues will continue to focus on the constitutional rights of Texas.
