Rep. Flynn Defends Integrity of Texas House & A.G. Greg Abbott

Efforts to demonize House as racists and men & women of no integrity is disgraceful width=162By State Rep. Dan Flynn District 2 Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas It has come to my attention and the attention of my fellow House colleagues that the motives and intentions of the Texas Legislature and Attorney width=204General Greg Abbott are being questioned with regards to the integrity used to handle the statewide redistricting process. Those who question the integrity of the House and the process in which this Redistricting Bill passed should be ashamed to call into question not only the ethics of each member but the ethics of their constituency as well.   To make such absurd and false claims is not only disrespectful to the process and procedure of the Texas House but to the citizens of Texas as well.   I want to be on record as being 100 behind Attorney General Greg Abbott and his efforts to defend the law passed by Legislature and supported by the citizens of Texas. The Texas House spent countless hours working together and deliberating various proposals in order to achieve a solid framework. After much compromise the House passed the most agreeable version of redistricting legislation it could achieve and we all got to vote the will width=177of our constituents. This process whether you liked it or not ended up saving Texas Taxpayers millions of dollars by not having to conduct this process in a Special Session as has often been the case in prior redistricting years. There is no question that many members myself included were disappointed with the final maps and voted  against the bill. Yet disappointment or not the House understood that the bill which eventually passed represented a plan void of preference and advantage.  Knowing the integrity of the House was represented in the lines on the map many members cast their vote for or against with the clear understanding that what was on the table was the best possible compromise available.
What was achieved in passing that bill was a good example of the Texas House representing the will of the people of Texas.
Costing Texans millions of dollars in lawsuits in order to achieve a personal agenda is disgraceful. What is more disgraceful is publicizing the goal of personal political gain as the reason behind such blatantly ineffectual claims and the snubbing of the rightful will of the Texas people.  This type of behavior shows a desire to disrupt government procedure and demonstrates a personal sense of superiority that does not belong in Texas or any elected position responsible width=160for representing the will of their constituency. To solicit the use of activist judges in order to overrule what the voters of Texas clearly were opposed to is a blatant abuse of the role and purpose of their elected position these actions are inexcusable.  Activist judges do not run Texas; Texans run Texas and the will of Texans is clearly spelled out in the Texas Constitution. I ask those opposing the current redistricting legislation passed into law by the duly elected members of the Texas House to listen to the will of the Texas majority stop your lawsuits and end your efforts.  To publicly accuse the Texas House of intentionally drawing redistricting maps to exclude minorities is not only shameful but a poor example of leadership and the knowledge and maturity it requires to be a good leader. The elected body of the Texas House of Representatives had no intent to cut any one voter out of the process especially minorities; however the opposition knows that to be true. To demonize this elected body as racists bigots and men and women of no integrity is disgraceful.
It is a simple and yet feeble smoke screen for the real intent - to sue the state until you get the outcome you could not achieve legislatively.
Do the state and the voters a favor stop taking dollars away from more worthy efforts like the protection of Texans and fair funding for all Texas schools and students.  End this now and lets get back to work serving the people of Texas.
