Washington D.C. Representative Gene Green and a bipartisan group of Texas members today sent a letter to Robert D. Hormats Under Secretary for Economic Energy and Agricultural Affairs for the U.S. Department of State in support of the Japan Open Skies agreement currently being negotiated between Japan and the United States.
An open skies agreement is expected to provide U.S. carrier access for the first time in over thirty years to Tokyos Haneda Airport and allow for U.S. industry growth at Tokyos Narita airport.
The Japan Open Skies agreement now being negotiated is expected to provide U.S. carrier access for the first time in over thirty years to Tokyo Haneda airport one of Asias most sought after destinations given its close proximity to central Tokyo. This agreement is anticipated to provide for new flights and airline growth in the Tokyo market. The open skies agreement would also allow for U.S. industry growth at Tokyo Narita airport.
The Japan Open Skies agreement would give airlines like Texas-based Continental and American Airlines the opportunity to compete for access" said Representative Gene Green. Additional airline service would give travelers and shippers more flight choices more itinerary options and more fare classes. This agreement is good for our economy our businesses and creating jobs."
The letter led by Representative Gene Green was signed by a bipartisan coalition including Representatives Joe Barton Kevin Brady Michael Burgess John Carter Mike Conaway Henry Cuellar John Culberson Lloyd Doggett Chet Edwards Charlie Gonzalez Kay Granger Al Green Ralph Hall Jeb Hensarling Rubn Hinojosa Sheila Jackson Lee Eddie Bernice Johnson Sam Johnson Kenny Marchant Michael McCaul Randy Neugebauer Pete Olson Solomon Ortiz Ted Poe Silvestre Reyes Ciro Rodriguez Pete Sessions and Mac Thornberry.
