Former Houston Police Officer Confirmed as United States Marshall for Southern Texas
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – (Houston, TX) – This week, the United States Senate confirmed former Houston Police Officer and President of the Houston Police Officer’s Union Gary Blankinship as United States Marshall for the Southern District of Texas.
“I am pleased the Gary Blankinship has finally been appointed as U.S. Marshall for Southern Texas,” Green said. “Since 2009, other members of the Texas Delegation and I have written letters to President Obama in support of his nomination. We believe that his guiding principles of honesty, integrity and accountability as well as his 35 years of service and dedication to the public good will make him an excellent leader.”
During his career in law enforcement, Blankinship served honorably as a police officer, and became a champion for injured officers and families of fallen heroes. In his leadership role, he founded the Assist the Officer Foundation following the 1993 death of his partner to provide short-term, immediate financial assistance for officers critically injured or disabled in the line of duty.
“Gary Blankinship is fully qualified to serve as U.S. Marshall for the Southern District of Texas, and I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role,” Green said.

Gary Blankinship was employed by the Houston Police Department from 1982-2012 where he worked his way through the ranks to the position of Senior Police Officer. Prior to his service with the Houston Police Department, Mr. Blankinship was employed by the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. He has also served as Vice President for the National Association of Police Organizations. Mr. Blankinship currently resides in Pasadena, Texas with his wife, Lisa.
