HOUSTON Texas (Texas Insider Report) Congressman Gene Green
invites Houston-area students and parents to his biannual Paying for College Workshop and Academy Day on Monday September 15
th at 7:00 p.m. at North Shore Senior High School.
During this free seminar representatives from The Sallie Mae Fund will present information about how to apply for scholarships and financial aid and important factors to consider when choosing a college or university.
The cost of college has continued to increase over the years" Green said. When I went to UH I worked to pay my way through school. Now college is so expensive that very few can afford to do that and most students graduate college with massive debt.
Thats why we hold these workshops twice a year. We want students and their families to have all the information they need to make an informed decision about choosing the right school and finding the resources to fund it."
The Sallie Mae Fund will also be raffling one $500 scholarship to a high school student present at the event getting him or her started on the right foot for college next fall.
Additionally representatives from U.S. Service Academies and local colleges will be present with information about their institutions and to answer questions.Participating colleges include: Rice University University of Houston Central Campus University of Houston Downtown Houston Community College Northeast San Jacinto College North Lone Star College and Devry University.
