Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas After passage of essential education and budgetary legislation what Rep. Charlie Howard (R-Sugar Land) referred to as the most important items of the special session less than 72 hours remain. Many issues placed on Governor Perrys call remain unfinished and Rep. Howard views two of these items as vitally important to the well being of the state.
Senate Bill 9 and House Bill 41 hands down answered Rep. Howard when asked which of the issues on Governor Perrys call were most essential. These measures will provide safety to our citizens as well as restore dignity and respect to our constituents when they travel.
Much of our states large metropolitan areas are facing serious challenges due to their citys adoption of sanctuary city policies. These policies in essence ignore federal immigration law and provide a safe haven for illegal immigrants. Many of these illegal immigrants have committed violent crimes against United States citizens.
Additionally many Americans have expressed recent outrage at many of the practices currently being employed by the Transportation Security Administration. Governor Perry recently addressed this issue by placing it on the call during the current special session.
It is our duty to protect the public and both of these measures provide us the opportunity to do exactly that said Rep. Howard. It is my sincere hope that we will be able to pass both of these essential measures before the end of this current special session.
