ROUND ROCK - State Rep. Maldonado is teaming up with the Texas Hospitality Association (THA) to fight underage drinking and to promote alcohol responsibility through a statewide poster contest that will award a 2010 high school graduating senior a $5000 educational scholarship.
Increasing alcohol education and awareness is an important aspect to ensuring the safety of our students said Rep. Maldonado. This contest is a great opportunity that not only lets our students use their creativity in an opportunity to receive a college scholarship but also serves as a way to spread the word about the dangers and effects of underage drinking.
THA will award a $5000 scholarship to the Texas high school senior who designs and submits the best poster conveying the message or theme: If you are under 21 its illegal to consume or purchase alcoholic beverages in Texas." The winning poster will be used in a statewide campaign to help combat underage drinking.
I was excited to the high level of enthusiasm from high school students in House District 52 last year and I look forward the artistic entries that will be submitted this year said Rep. Maldonado.
The contest is open to all 2010 Texas high school seniors. Artwork must be an original design and may be computer or electronically generated hand drawn or photographed. Students have until May 14 to submit their poster to THA. The winner of the $5000 scholarship will be determined by a vote of each Texas House of Representatives office.
