Rep. Rob Orr Announces Armed Services Scholarship Program

width=72BURLESON --  The 81st Texas Legislature created the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program to encourage graduating high school students to participate in Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) programs at Texas institutions of higher education according to Rep. Rob Orr (R-Burleson).  Eligible students may qualify for up to $10000 to pursue a postsecondary education Rep. Orr explained.  I am pleased to make this scholarship opportunity available to students in Johnson and Bosque Counties. I encourage all students who might be even the least bit interested in serving in the military and going to college to apply for this great opportunity. Under certain circumstances the scholarship may be extended throughout the students college career Rep. Orr said. To receive the scholarship a student must be appointed by a state official.  As your state representative I am able to appoint one student to receive the scholarship. I look forward to having someone from across District 58 take advantage of this unique scholarship program Rep. Orr said. In addition students must agree to become members of the Texas Army National Guard or the Texas Air Force National Guard or become commissioned officers in any branch of the armed services of the United States.  An overview of program requirements and qualifications for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship is attached and is also accessible via the College for All Texans web site: http://www.collegeforalltexans.com/apps/financialaid/tofa2.cfm?ID=581. Students interested in receiving the scholarship must submit the following information to Rep. Orrs office no later than Aug. 16 2010.
