Rep. Rob Orr Represents Texas at National State Legislators Gathering

width=72Texas Insider Report: BURLESON Texas Rep. Rob Orr (R-Burleson) represented Texas at the American Legislative Exchange Councils (ALEC) 37th Annual Meeting held in San Diego CA earlier this month. Nearly 1500 state legislators policy experts and private-sector leaders from across the United States attended three days of intensive discussions on the critical issues facing the states and our nation. ALEC  is the nations largest nonpartisan individual membership organization of state legislators. State legislators shared their knowledge and experiences with one another and heard from national leaders and renowned policy experts who share their commitment to common sense free markets and federalism. width=128This years Annual Meeting featured Gov. Rick Perry of Texas; former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN); Randall Stephenson President and CEO of AT&T; Greg Babe President and CEO of Bayer Corporation; John Fund columnist at The Wall Street Journal; Scott Rasmussen President of Rasmussen Reports; Ed Royce Representative from California; Lynn Salo VP Allergan Medical US Breast Aesthetics Division; and Cal Thomas syndicated columnist. Many other scholars legislators and business leaders spoke at various meetings throughout the event.  This years conference was extremely interesting with many excellent presentations. It is always good to share information with colleagues from around the nation said Rep. Orr a member of the Tax & Fiscal Policy Task Force. I had many other representatives from other states telling me that they wished their State was in as good of shape as Texas. It made me proud to be from Texas. Most of the business conducted at ALEC occurs in one of its nine Task Forces which include; Health and Human Services; Energy Environment and Agriculture; Education; Tax and Fiscal Policy; Public Safety and Elections; Civil Justice; Commerce Insurance and Economic Development; Telecommunications and Information Technology; and International Relations. These Task Forces have considered written and approved hundreds of model bills offering real policy solutions for states on a wide range of issues. Each year state legislatures consider close to 1000 bills that are based at least in part on ALEC Model Legislation. Hundreds of these bills are enacted every year. Rep. Orr is serving his third term in the Texas House of Representatives where he serves on the House Select Committee on Government Efficiency and Accountability along with the Committees on Business and Industry Land and Resource Management and Local and Consent Calendars. He is also serving his second term on the House Research Organization. Rep. Orr is a member of the Republican Caucus Policy Committee Community College Caucus and the Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas. He also serves on The Energy Council an international legislative organization that focuses on policies regarding energy and the environment.
