Rep. Roberto R. Alonzo Addresses Group At Mountain View College on Constitutional Amendment #6 – Water Legislation

~ Highlights the Importance of Water to the State’s Economy ~

roberto-alonzoTexas Insidr Report: AUSTIN, Texas – (DALLAS, TX) –  On Monday, September 23, Texas State Rep. Roberto Alonzo addressed a group of students, faculty, and other guests at Mountain View College about Constitutional Amendment No. 6 which is one of nine amendments that will appear on the November 5, 2013, ballot for approval by Texas voters.

Alonzo’s talk was part of the college’s Water Bank Political Forum; Topic: “Sustainability Lecture Series – Water:  The Scarce Commodity.”

“Water is one of the most important natural resources that impacts all of us on a daily basis. The issue of WATER and its SUSTAINABILITY and what we must all do to keep it safe and plentiful for the sake of all of our lives, as well as the lives of our future generations is of urgent importance.  Constitutional Amendment No. 6 is an amendment which proposes ‘the creation of the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas and the State Water Implementation Revenue Fund for Texas to assist in the financing of priority projects in the state water plan to ensure the availability of adequate water resources,’ “said Rep. Alonzo.

“As most of you know, in 2011, Texas suffered the worst, single-year drought in our state’s history.  The drought, which continues today, costs Texans billions of dollars in lost income annually. And, some Texas communities struggle to maintain adequate supplies of clean, affordable water. To help address the water supply shortfalls associated with drought, Texas has a instituted a State Water Plan but now needs help financially to implement it.  The 83rd Texas Legislature put Texas on course to implement our state’s water plan by passing a package of water legislation.  It is for this reason that I supported this measure,” continued Rep. Alonzo.
