ron-simmonsTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas State Representative Ron Simmons (Carrollton) was named Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Long-Term Transportation Infrastructure Planning on Thursday. It is an honor to be named Chairman of the Subcommittee on Long-Term Transportation Infrastructure Planning Simmons said.  I have spent a great deal of time studying transportation issues in Texas so I am very enthusiastic about this opportunity.  I am very appreciative of Chairman Joe Pickett and Speaker Joe Straus for entrusting this great responsibility to me and I am looking forward to working with my fellow committee members throughout the remainder of the 84th Legislative Session to find solutions to Texas long-term transportation needs. During the interim Simmons was appointed by Speaker Straus to serve on the House Select Committee on Transportation Funding Expenditures and Finance.  Representative Pickett served as Chairman of the select committee and now serves as the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee. Representative Simmons has proven to be a thoughtful solutions-oriented legislator who is concerned about the most serious challenges facing our state Speaker Straus said.  Transportation is certainly one of those challenges and he will provide valuable leadership as this subcommittee takes a thorough look at our long-term demands. The Subcommittee on Long-Term Transportation Infrastructure Planning is a permanent subcommittee under the House Transportation Committee.  The subcommittee was created with the passage of House Resolution 4 earlier this session.  The subcommittee is required to consider all matters pertaining to the transportation needs of the state during the next ten years and funding mechanisms to provide for meeting those needs.
