Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Representative Ron Simmons (Carrollton) was appointed to serve as Chairman of the House Select Committee on State Real Property Data Collection Reporting and Assessment last Friday.
I am honored to be named Chair of this important committee said Simmons upon hearing of his appointment. In the private sector being unaware of the absolute value of ones assets is unacceptable. It is important that the State of Texas have a comprehensive transparent database of its assets to responsibly manage the states resources.
The committee created pursuant to a provision from HB 3750 filed by Representative Simmons during the recent 84th Legislative Session and signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott will study potential ways to ensure the state is able to identify track and maintain information on the location condition and replacement value of all real property owned by the state.
Representative Simmons has earned the respect of his colleagues and proven himself to be a very effective voice for his constituents said House Speaker Joe Straus. As Chairman of this committee he will help ensure that the state is managing its resources in a responsible way.
Other members of the House Select Committee include the Honorable Giovanni Capriglione of Southlake the Honorable Celia Israel of Austin the Honorable Renee Oliveira of Brownsville and the Honorable Ed Thompson of Pearland. This select committee will meet jointly with its counterpart Senate select committee chaired by the Honorable Brian Birdwell of Granbury the Honorable Kevin Eltife of Tyler the Honorable Jose Menendez of San Antonio the Honorable Larry Taylor of Friendswood and the Honorable Kirk Watson of Austin.
After gathering testimony the committee will report its findings and recommendations to the Legislature not later than January 13 2017 before the start of the 85th Legislative Session.
