(AUSTIN)- Today Rep. Taylor (R- Friendswood) joined Chambers of Commerce from across the state to support H.B. 831.
H.B. 831 seeks to allow an exemption from the ad valorem tax for nonprofit community business organizations.
This exemption will allow Chambers of Commerce to dedicate the money they would otherwise spend on property taxes to economic development initiatives within their local communities.
In Texas we are all about jobs Taylor said. Because of this our state continues to enjoy a better economic environment than the rest of the country. We must continue to pass pro-job pro-business legislation to keep the momentum going. This bill will help support our local economic development efforts all across this great state.
Over 155 local resolutions have passed which represent 125 Chambers of Commerce in support of H.B. 831. The bill is set for a hearing today in the House Ways & Means Committee. Senator Mike Jackson (R- La Porte) filed the companion bill S.B. 564.
Rep. Taylor was unanimously elected by his colleagues to serve as Chairman of the House Republican Caucus for the 2009-2010 term. He is a member of the House Insurance Committee and House Ways & Means Committee. Rep. Taylor represents District 24 in Galveston County and is serving his fourth term in the Texas House of Representatives as a member of the 81st Legislature.
