Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas (PLANO) - Today State Representative Jeff Leach announced the launch of the Student Leadership Advisory Council a unique opportunity for high school students within House District 67 to engage in the legislative process with Representative Leach and his staff and to obtain a hands-on education of the role and inner-workings of Texas state government.
The future of Texas depends on raising up training and equipping the next generation of leaders who are interested and called to public service which is the main objective of our Student Leadership Advisory Council. Through this program I and my staff hope to provide these students not only a special opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of the Texas Legislature and the legislative process but also to understand the importance and intrinsic value of civic engagement and public service stated Leach.
Students selected to participate in the Student Leadership Advisory Council will be required to attend four meetings throughout the 2014-2015 school year meeting twice each semester. Meetings will be led by Representative Leach and his staff as well as other elected officials covering various topics including the significance of community involvement the role and functions of state government and the overall legislative process.
Representative Leachs office is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 school year. To be eligible students must reside in
District 67 and be enrolled in grades 9 - 12. Students will be selected by the Student Leadership Advisory Council Committee which is comprised of various community leaders within House District 67. Applications are due May 5 2014 and final selections will be announced on May 26 2014.
