Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas This week State Representative Jeff Leach pre-filed his initial legislative package in advance of the 84th Legislative Session which convenes on January 13 2015.
After spending the last several months on a listening tour throughout the district meeting with constituents community and business leaders parents teachers educators and various elected officials I believe I have gained a clear understanding of the needs and desires of my constituency said Leach. In response I have pre-filed various bills aimed at improving the quality of life across the Lone Star State and here at home.
Representative Leach filed HB 201 the Open Access to Water Act to expedite the processing of water rights permits by cutting bureaucratic red tape and ensuring a more timely and efficient permitting process to address our scarce water needs in North Texas. Further Leach filed HB 202 and HB 203 to provide substantial transportation funding to address our states estimated $5 billion funding shortfall for public roadways in Texas without raising taxes. Leach continues to prioritize water and transportation infrastructure as core functions of government - both critical components towards sustaining Collin Countys quality of life.
Leach also filed a number of other bills focused on tax relief improving public education promoting our treasured Second Amendment rights making our neighborhoods safer and advocating for a more honest and open government on behalf of hardworking taxpayers.
Continued Leach I will continue meeting with constituents and stakeholders over the course of the next several weeks and during the legislative session to ensure that my office is responsive to the needs of the people we serve and that we are effectively advocating on their behalf in Austin. Serving the wonderful people of Collin County in their Texas House is a sincere honor and a privilege and I look forward with great anticipation to a productive legislative session."
Born and raised in Plano Representative Leach graduated from Plano Senior High before attending Baylor University and went on to earn his law degree from Southern Methodist Universitys Dedman School of Law. Leach practices at the law firm of Gray Reed & McGraw P.C. in Dallas. He and his wife Becky a small business owner are the proud parents of three young children and are active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church. Leach represents portions of Plano Allen Richardson and Dallas in Collin County.
