Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas (PLANO) – Today, State Representative Jeff Leach announced Anthony Thomas McKee as the 2013-2014 scholarship recipient of the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP).
A graduate of Plano Senior High School, McKee ranked in the top 10% of his graduating class and served as an active member of the National Honors Society for three consecutive years. McKee has proven himself as a model for his community by attaining the Eagle Scout ranking and participating in several community service programs while taking an active leadership role among his peers by engaging in various extracurricular activities, including the Plano Varsity Choir, the Plano Men’s Cross Country Team, numerous theatre productions and the Plano Maroon Guard. His prestigious academic record and diversified background will serve him well as he embarks on his journey to attend Texas A&M University this fall where he plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.

This bright and talented young leader understands the meaning of military service and values the sacred freedoms that were so valiantly fought for by our brave men and women in uniform. I am certain that Anthony will achieve great success in the United States Army and make our country proud.”
Created in 2009 by the 81st Legislature, the TASSP was designed to financially assist post-secondary students by encouraging them to become members of the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, the United States Coast Guard, the United States Merchant Marine, or to become commissioned officers in any branch of the armed services of the United States. The TASSP provides up to $10,000 for a conditional scholarship to a deserving student dedicated to education and military service. Each year the Texas Governor and Lieutenant Governor appoint up to two students, and each Texas State Senator and State Representative may appoint one student.
