Representative Jose Aliseda on Education Redistricting and Energy Resources

width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas This week the House will consider three of the top issues for our district: Education Redistricting and Energy Resources. Given that there are only 5 weeks left in the legislative session I am glad that we are making these a priority. Education The House is set to consider House Bill 400 which will help school districts reduce costs by giving more local control to school leaders teachers and parents. This bill maintains classroom size for grades K-4 removes expensive mandates and allows districts to put more information on their websites. Most school districts in our area will see about an 8 cut in state funding Redistricting We will also look at redistricting Texas House seats based on population. As I mentioned last week House District 35 is proposed to include: Atascosa LaSalle McMullen Live Oak Bee Duval and San Patricio Counties. There are many amendments to the proposal and any map will likely be challenged in court. Energy Resources On Friday of this week we are supposed to discuss the operations of the Railroad Commission. Given the development of the Eagle Ford shale in south Texas I look forward to this debate. This bill will likely rename the Railroad Commission and reduce the number of Commissioners from three to one.
