Reps. McCaul Lofgren Lead Rangel Ethics Hearing

width=136Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas  Texas own Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-CD 10 Austin) has been appointed Ranking Member on the House of Represenatives Ethics Adjudicatory Subcommittee hearing the case against Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY).  I encourage you to read or watch video of my remarks during last weeks hearing. As a former federal prosecutor with the Department of Justice Public Integrity Section I take this responsibility very seriously.   By Congressman Michael McCaul Job Fair! I will be hosting a Job Fair Wednesday September 1 2010 at the Merrell Center in Katy TX featuring employers from across Texas and the nation.  There is no cost to participate but space is limited.  If you are an employer looking for qualified candidates please contact our Austin district office at (512) 473-2357 or fill out the registration form on our website. FY10 War Supplemental Appropriations Tuesday the House passed H.R. 4899 which provides funding to support our troops serving abroad and for the State Departments efforts in Afghanistan Pakistan and Iraq and the Haiti humanitarian relief mission.  I supported this bill once the nearly $23 billion of non-essential domestic spending originally included was stripped out.  Military Construction & Veterans Affairs I was proud to vote on an overwhelmingly bipartisan bill that provides nearly $76 billion of critical funding for military construction and housing for our troops and their families.  H.R. 5822 also includes funding for programs that the Department of Veterans Affairs and related agencies have requested.  This legislation is in line with last years spending levels as well as the Presidents request for these programs.   Katy & Tomball VA Clinics VA Secretary Eric Shinseki has approved lease recommendations for community-based outpatient clinics in Katy and Tomball. This gives the green light to proceed with site selection and construction and is great news for our Veterans who currently have to drive to the Medical Center in Houston for their healthcare. Full Story YouCut - Advanced Earned Income Tax Credit I supported but the House defeated a proposal to save taxpayers $1.1 billion by eliminating the Advanced Earned Income Tax Credit (AEITC).  Under the program eligible taxpayers may receive a portion of their credit throughout the year in their paychecks. A government audit revealed the AEITC is particularly susceptible to waste fraud and abuse and that 80 of recipients did not comply with program requirements. De Facto Drilling Moratorium The Consolidated Land Energy and Aquatic Resources (CLEAR) Act indefinitely prolongs the Gulf of Mexico drilling moratorium imposed by the administration.  I voted against H.R. 3534 because it increases taxes and regulation adds layers of bureaucracy and imposes unlimited liability caps.  The moratorium has already cost thousands of jobs and this bill will only exacerbate the economic crisis.
