Reveals Texas Statewide Voter Opinion Survey

width=130(The Woodlands TX)—On Monday December 8 2008 Hill Research Consultants is releasing the results of a statewide public opinion poll of 636 voters examining the current health and future prospects in Texas of the Republican political brand.

Fielded November 15-17 2008 and with a margin of error of 3.9 our survey and subsequent report—“Beyond Bush: Texas Republicans in an Obama Era”—reveals that...

-- Generic Republican ballot support has sunk to just 31 of the electorate overall while approximately 45 of all voters say they expect to cast a ballot for a Democratic candidate in the next gubernatorial or state legislative election.

--  On average Democratic figures from Texas’ recent past are rated more favorably than are current Republican office-holders; generically Republicans are perceived by many voters to be less concerned with day-to-day problems while also being more arrogant racist corrupt and angry.

--  The GOP’s core-conservative base—21 of the overall electorate—is significantly more concerned about illegal immigration and protecting traditional values than even other parts of the Republican coalition let alone Independent voters in the “critical middle” who must be won over for GOP candidates to emerge victorious on Election Day.

--  While more moderate than the GOP base these Independent voters still think of themselves as significantly more conservative than the recent crop of Democratic candidates on the ballot and strongly support “money back in my pocket” property-tax cuts and reductions in state spending.

At the conclusion of the polling report Hill Research offers strategic recommendations on how Republican campaigns can correct increasingly negative perceptions of the GOP while moving forward with a winning agenda focused on economic concerns and government ethics reforms that are driving the younger Hispanic and Independent voters critical to our party’s future electoral success.

HRC’s founder and director Dr. David B. Hill will be hosting multiple web-based briefings for the media on Monday December 8.
