Republican DeWayne Burns Kicks Off Campaign for Texas House

dewayne-burnsTexas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – (CLEBURNE, TX) –DeWayne Burns officially announced his intentions today to seek the Republican nomination for Texas House District 58 which has been represented by Rob Orr for over a decade. Orr announced last month that he would not seek re-election in 2014.

Burns said, “As a businessman, a landowner and a taxpayer, I know that government spending and regulation is out of control, and I am running for State Representative to do something about it. The Obama Administration’s policies towards the economy, education and healthcare threaten our ability as Texans to govern ourselves. We must have strong, steady leaders in Austin who will stand up to federal intrusion into state issues, who will work to lower property taxes, to improve our education system, to enhance border security and to protect the unborn and our Second Amendment rights.”

Burns, a native of Johnson County who currently serves as Vice President of the Cleburne ISD Board of Trustees, has a long history of working to promote issues like private property rights, a world class education for our children, and the protection of our traditional family values. He has had stints with the Texas Grain and Feed Association, as a legislative analyst with two State Representatives, including former Representative Arlene Wohlgemuth, and with the Texas Department of Agriculture under then-Commissioners Rick Perry and Susan Combs. At one point during his tenure with the T.D.A., he was promoted to Coordinator for Special Issues in the department’s Intergovernmental Affairs Division.

Burns is currently a property and business investment manager, and his family owns and operates a cattle ranch southwest of Cleburne. He has recently served as the President of the Johnson County Farm Bureau, in addition to serving as a Fire Commissioner for the Johnson County Emergency Services District #1 and as a member of the Johnson County Economic Development Commission.

“My pledge as our next State Representative is to take our shared conservative values to the floor of the Texas House and fight for the people of Johnson and Bosque Counties,” Burns concluded. “I believe that God’s plan for my life has prepared me for this moment, and I look forward to talking with my friends and neighbors across this district in the coming months about the issues that are important to their families.”

Burns is a graduate of Tarleton State University. He married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer, and they are the proud parents of two teenage sons and a daughter. The Burns Family are members of First Baptist Church of Cleburne.
