Republican Hispanic Conference: A New Voice in Austin

From State Rep. Raul Torres width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas It wasnt even a day since the new Republican Hispanic Conference was formally announced that Anthony Gutierrezthe spokesman for the Texas Democratic Party width=203(TDP)criticized Republican Hispanics of the Texas Legislature for forming the Conference of which I am an officer and member.  The newly formed Republican Hispanic Conference is composed of six Hispanic legislators as well as other state representatives that serve districts with large Hispanic populations.  The group is chaired by State Representative Aaron Pena of Edinburgh.  Other members includes the five other Republican members of Hispanic descent: Jose Aliseda of width=126Beeville Dee Margo of El Paso Larry Gonzales of Round Rock and Raul Torres of Corpus ChristiThis group was formed to address issues important to the Hispanic population of Texas thereby serving as a counter voice to the Mexican American Legislative Caucus (MALC) which is often the Democrat Partys media outlet for Hispanic issues.  Well now there is another voice in Austin that will represent the voices of millions of Texans.  Needless to say it is very clear from the statement released from the Democratic Party that they believe that all Hispanics are monolithic in their thinking political leanings & party affiliation and that only members of the Democratic Party can represent Hispanic Texans.  Well I have a few words for the TDP....you are absolutely out of your minds. Furthermore Texas State GOP Chairman Steve Munisteri condemned this biased and prejudicial statement from the TDP by noting
It is ironic that the Texas Democratic Party which purports to be representing the interest of the Hispanic community it in fact does the Hispanic community a great disservice by assuming that all Hispanics support the Democratic Party  and that if Republican Hispanics meet to advance Hispanic concerns that this is somehow inappropriate.
The Chairman also said I applaud our Republican legislators for forming this Hispanic Republican Conference in order to ascertain the concerns of the width=157Hispanic community so that these concerns can be considered by the Texas Legislature as well as the Republican Party.   Can you imagine that?  The TDP actually believes that any person of Hispanic decent is incapable of thinking for themselves and that only they (TDP) can represent their family on issues such as work family education and healthcare.  No wonder the Democratic Party is continuing to lose voters by the thousands all over Texas.   The facts speak for themselves.  Hispanics by far embrace the traditional Republican Party values such as:
  1. Pro life
  2. Pro marriage
  3. Strong family values
  4. Support a national defense
  5. A belief in God
  6. Love of country and
  7. Right to bear arms to name just a few.   Lets move Texas forward.
On a News from Austin    Tea Party Caucus Update Friends on Saturday Feb.12th the Tea Party Legislative Caucus is hosting a citizen event from 1-4 at the Capitol in the auditorium on level E-1 in the Capitol Extension.  If youve never been to the Capitol before this would be a great time to visit and then attend an informative orientation on how I do my job in the legislature.  The orientation will be similar to what all new legislators learn before beginning work in their first session.  Although I will not be able to attend due to events in the district the orientation will be presented by my fellow legislators.  Topics will include how the legislative process works how to pass legislation an overview of the width=85budget a look at education and healthcare redistricting and a question and answer time with members of the legislature. This is the first ever citizen orientation on a behind the scenes look at how your government in Texas works.  As a member of the Tea Party Caucus our mission is equip our citizens with as much information possible. The more knowledgeable the voters the better our government will be. If you have any questions please call our office. Federal Judge Strikes Down Obamacare On another note a Florida judge struck down the entire Obamacare Health law last week.  This is a strong declaration of the need for constitutional and limited government in America.  The case will now go to the Court of Appeals or directly to the Supreme Court. Attorney General Abbott Swears Officers In Hispanic Republican Conference officers were sworn in by Attorney General Greg Abbott on Wednesday February 2 2011 in Austin Texas.
